Resurrecting a BMW M6 from Heap to Piece of Mobile Art

Article by Cooleric2000

Having seen his 2006 BMW M6 turned into what basically amounts to a mobile heap of junk, there seemed to be little hope in salvaging the poor guy. After all, the paint had been stripped from much of the right side door, the OEM BMW rims were pitted and had lost all of their gloss and shine, and the hood was dented all over (several dents in places it almost seemed impossible to imagine what could have caused the damage). Reckless driving doesn’t usually result in wonderful outcomes, but looking at this car espoused feelings you’d imagine a mother feeling when she sees her son’s grown a 6-foot beard and hasn’t showered in 2 months.

It’s funny, then, how things can come full circle. A year later, looking at the M6, it was as though the son had turned around a corner, chopped off that beard and learned how to shower not only once a day, but twice. The car now had a carbon rear diffuser and beautiful Dinan intakes. A new exhaust system added over 30 extra horsepower, and Vellano Forged chrome-colored rims with high spoke counts made it difficult to think those old, busted up rims had ever been attached to that car’s body. This guy did not spare a dime in his upgrade, and it paid off. Dual exhaust pipes on each end of the white body made the rear end look just as spectacular as the front, and new LED tails made for a much more menacing overall appearance when paired with that new rear spoiler. Rear spoilers can sometimes look a bit over-the-top, but this one was small and aerodynamically designed, and added some punch along with the horizontal black racing stripes that were added down the sides of the car.

New HID headlights in the front really capped off the whole look (and made for quite a juxtaposing narrative when comparing these new lights to the car’s single working headlight from earlier). He’d installed 10000K HIDs, for a dramatic purple coloring that was most definitely the most eclectic upgrade he’d made (besides the rear spoiler), but which matched well with the upgraded LED tail lights. It seemed especially fitting, after all, as BMWs were the first cars to introduce HID headlights.

From piece of junk to work of art, this guy really had his work cut out from him but still outdid himself on the modification. As long as he keeps his wild side in check, hopefully the car will continue to look like the million bucks it does after all of these body and component conversions.

For sale on eBay Feb 2011. This Solex 4A1 carburettor is from a Vauxhall Royale 2.8 circa 1980. I believe the same carburettor was used on the Mercedes 280, some BMWs and Rolls-Royce Corniche & Camargue. The item has been partly refurbished, mainly by cleaning and freeing-up of the secondary stage air flaps and needles. As can be seen in the video they are in good working order; usually on these carbs the flaps are seized or the cam mechanism for lifting the needles is broken. Other commonly faulty components that are in working order are the TN starter, the accelerator pump, throttle stop damper, secondary air flap damper, cold start choke etc. I have not been able to test this on a car but from my experience of working on cars fitted with this carb, and fixing them, I can see no reason why it should not be in good working order. It may be need a little fine tuning though.
